Message From The President

Greetings,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph (BHSJ) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated—a small chapter with a big heart.

Since 1967, the BHSJ Alumnae Chapter has served with distinction in carrying out the programs of our sorority. The 23 members of our chapter care deeply for our communities and work diligently to maximize our impact and steward our resources responsibly. I invite you to explore this website to learn more about our rich history, our results over years, and how to get in touch with us.

While our chapter name specifically references Benton Harbor and St. Joseph—and indeed, the majority of our members call these municipalities home—our service area consists of Berrien and Van Buren counties. If you know of area volunteer opportunities that would amplify the sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement, please reach out to explore potential partnerships.

If you’re a soror who would like to become a new member of our chapter or re-establish membership after some time away, we would love to connect with you and leverage your talents in our programs. From those new to our sisterhood to those who have earned the beloved title of Delta D.E.A.R., there’s a place for you within our chapter.

Although a Spring 1995 initiate of the Delta Eta Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, I have been fortunate to call the BHSJ Alumnae Chapter home for the majority of my Delta journey. It has been an honor to work alongside this chapter’s dedicated sorors on efforts such as awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors, increasing voter awareness and engagement, creating safe spaces for our youth to thrive, and caring for seniors, veterans, and new mothers.

As we move forward with our 2025-2026 program year, I look forward to our continued progress, holding high the torch lit by our 22 Founders and advancing the vision of our 12 Charter Members.

With warm regards,
Cidni Sanders
